The Metals We Choose and Why

The Metals We Choose and Why

Every piece we make begins with a choice that most people never think about — the metal itself. Before the shape, before the stone, before anything else, there is the question of what this piece will actually be made of. And that question, small as it sounds, carries a lot of weight. We work with three metals: gold, silver, and platinum.

Each one has its own personality, its own history, its own kind of beauty. We don't use them interchangeably. We reach for each one intentionally — because the metal is never just the backdrop. It is the piece. Here's what each one means to us.

Gold— For the Things That Last

Gold is the metal of permanence. It doesn't tarnish, doesn't rust, doesn't ask much of you. A gold piece can be worn through a monsoon, through a decade, through a life — and emerge on the other side essentially unchanged. There's a reason gold has been treasured across every culture and every century. It simply endures.

When we reach for gold, we're usually thinking about milestone pieces. The ring you'll wear every day for the rest of your life. The earrings gifted on a birthday that matters. The pendant someone will one day pass to their daughter. Gold carries a quiet gravity that feels right for those moments.

We work with 14k and 18k gold — a choice that balances beauty with durability. 18k is richer in color, more deeply golden. 14k is a little harder, a little more resilient to daily wear. Both are the real thing. Both age gracefully. We'll always tell you which is which so you can choose what suits your life.

Gold is for the piece you're buying to keep.

18k Gold — The Richest, Purest Choice

18k gold is 75% pure gold, mixed with 25% other metals like silver and copper for strength. That high gold content gives it a deeply warm, saturated color — the rich, unmistakably golden tone most people picture when they think of fine jewelry. It's also the softer of the two, which means it can pick up very slight scratches over years of daily wear. But here's the thing: those tiny marks accumulate into what jewelers call a patina — a soft, lived-in glow that many people fall in love with over time.

We reach for 18k when we want a piece to feel truly luxurious — necklaces that rest against the skin, earrings that catch warm light, rings for occasions that deserve the best.

18k is for you if: you want the richest color, the highest gold purity, and you don't mind a little character developing over the years.

14k Gold — The Everyday Workhorse

14k gold is 58.3% pure gold, which makes it noticeably more durable than 18k. The higher proportion of alloyed metals adds hardness, making it more resistant to scratching and everyday wear. The color is still beautifully golden — just a touch lighter and cooler than 18k, which some people actually prefer. It sits more quietly on the skin.

We love 14k for pieces meant to be worn constantly — rings that never come off, bracelets stacked with others, earrings that go in on Monday and come out on Friday. It's the gold that keeps up with real life.

14k is for you if: you want something you can wear hard, every single day, without worrying about it.

Silver — For the Everyday Self

Silver is more democratic than gold. More relaxed. It has a coolness to it — literally and in spirit — that makes it feel effortless rather than formal. It's the metal that looks just as right with a linen shirt and bare feet as it does with something more dressed up.

We love silver for everyday pieces: stacking rings, simple hoops, the kind of bracelet you forget you're wearing until someone asks where you got it. There's an ease to silver that invites layering, experimenting, mixing and matching without overthinking.

It does ask a little more of you than gold — silver oxidizes over time, developing a gentle patina that some people love and others prefer to polish away. We think of it as silver showing its life. A piece that's been worn and loved looks different from one kept in a box, and we find that beautiful.

We use sterling silver (92.5% pure) across our collection. Solid, not plated — so the quality goes all the way through.

Silver is for the piece that becomes part of your daily rhythm.

Platinum — For the Rarest Kind of Forever

Platinum is in a category of its own. Rarer than gold, heavier in the hand, and with a cool, silvery-white brilliance that never fades — it is, without question, the most enduring metal we work with. If gold is permanence, platinum is eternity.

What makes platinum truly special is its purity. The platinum we use is 95% pure — far higher than even 18k gold. It doesn't need to be alloyed heavily to be strong; it is naturally dense and incredibly durable. It won't yellow, won't fade, and unlike white gold, it never needs to be rhodium-plated to keep its color. What you see on day one is what you'll have on day one thousand.

Platinum is also remarkably kind to sensitive skin. Its high purity means it's hypoallergenic — a meaningful detail for those who've struggled to find metals they can wear comfortably every day.

One thing to know: platinum does scratch. But here's what's different from gold — when platinum scratches, the metal doesn't actually wear away. It simply shifts, developing a soft, velvety texture over time called a satin finish or patina. Many platinum lovers consider this the mark of a well-lived piece. A quick polish from a jeweler can restore the original shine whenever you'd like.

We reserve platinum for our most considered, significant pieces — engagement rings, anniversary bands, heirlooms designed to outlast everything. It is not an everyday casual choice. It is a choice made with intention, for something that truly matters.

Platinum is for you if: you want the absolute finest, a metal that is hypoallergenic, age-proof, and built to be passed down through generations.

Platinum is for the piece that means everything.

How to Choose

If you're not sure which metal is right for you, here's a simple way to think about it:

  • Gold — if you want to wear it forever and never think about it

  • Silver — if you want something versatile, everyday, and effortlessly cool

  • Platinum — if you want the rarest, purest metal for a piece that truly lasts generations

And if you're still unsure, we're always just a message away. Choosing the right piece — and the right metal — is something we genuinely love to help with.Contact Us
